Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney‘s running mate Paul Ryan mocked President Barack Obama‘s decision to publish a 19-page booklet highlighting the policies he will be pursuing if he is elected to serve a second term. The Wisconsin representative was addressing a 1,000-strong crowd in Bristol, Virginia, when he dismissed the president’s program.

In a piece published on his website earlier on this week, Texas Congressman Ron Paul comments upon the job numbers published by the Department of Labor on Oct. 5 which showed that the official unemployment rate had fallen below eight percent (8%) for the first time since President Barack Obama took over from George W. Bush.

Americans divided over Syrian conflict

A new CNN / ORC survey conducted between August 7 and August 8 shows that American voters are divided about the situation in Syria and the potential steps that could be taken to tackle the bloody unrest in the Arab republic. Until recently, the Obama administration favored a diplomatic approach and supported the peace plan proposed by Kofi Annan, the former secretary general of the United Nations. Mr. Annan resigned as peace envoy two weeks ago after accepting that his plan had failed.

Forty three Roman Catholic dioceses, schools and social services agencies are suing the Obama administration over the president’s healthcare overhaul, part of which will force the majority of employers to include birth control coverage in their employees’ health plans.

The White said on Wednesday that it had no contingency plan should the individual mandate or the whole health care legislation overhaul be struck down by the Supreme Court.

or the whole health care legislation overhaul be struck down by the Supreme Court.

White House spokesman Josh Ernest told reporters on Wednesday that the Obama administration did not have, and was not working on, a plan B if the Supreme Court decided to strike down all or part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The legislation’s principal objective is to bring over 30 million uninsured Americans into the system.

Congressman Sean Duffy (R-Wis.) introduced a bill on Friday which would extend a pay freeze for federal workers, lawmakers and congressional aides for a further 12 months. If passed, Rep. Duffy’s proposal would mean that government workers’ pay would remain unchanged until Dec. 31, 2013.
